Gymnastics in Delaware is regarded as a type of sport; it entails a lot of physical exercises which entails power, coordination, agility, balance and flexibility. An overall worldwide governing body controls all gymnasts. This is the body tasked with ensuring that all professionals behave in an ethical manner and do not participate in doping. However, every state and country has its own rules that are part of the international standards.
Different categories exist in this particular sport and include; women artistic gymnastics, group and acrobatic. Each category has their number events. These events are; vaults, uneven beams, balance beam, floor exercise, high bar, parallel bar and pommel horse.
Ladies have not been left behind and also have a category dedicated to them. The age of participants is from seven years and above. However, to take part in Olympics one must be above sixteen years of age. Strong psychological skills are highly essential because they aid to ease tricks performed that are difficult and of intense pressure. Majority of the women compete in four events.
Unlike the female event, the male competition requires athletes to have reached the age of puberty because of the strength that is needed in carrying out the tricks. However, for boys to take part in Olympic events they need to be above sixteen years. This does not mean that boys under the age of sixteen cannot participate locally. In this sport events in the male category are more than those in the female category, there are a total number of six.
Leaps, jumps, tosses and many other exercises using various apparatus are performed in the rhythmic category. Elements of ballet, dance and manipulation are incorporated. Apparatus used are hoops, ropes, ribbons and balls. This gymnastic event is limited to women only and they can participate as individuals or in groups.
Trampoline is an event for both men and women. Athletes are required to take part in high-flying flips on each bounce, also there are some compulsory performances required for each participant. At advanced stages the athletes may perform in pairs at the same time and in synchronized fashion.
Tumbling is not an Olympic event yet, but it is performed international. The athletes in this category perform on a spring board that bounces. Here participants are needed to do very complicated twists and flips because of the bouncing surface. It is compulsory for athletes to perform two passes at each stage with eight elements included in every pass.
Acrobatics is unique from the other types in that the participants are regarded as the equipment. They perform in pairs of twos to fours; they do handstands, balances and holds on each other. The pairing may be all men, all women or a mix in gender; it is also not an Olympic event yet.
Team gym is the same as group gymnastics in Delaware and comprises of six to sixteen participants. Similar to acrobatics the groups can be of the same gender or mixed. Tumbling, mini-trampoline, vault and floor exercises are allowed in this event. Despite being an interesting local and international event performers cannot do this event in an Olympics since it is not included. However, in future this events may be included as part of the Olympics.
